Sometimes, however, surgery is necessary. Some of the most common procedures we perform in-house or at our outpatient surgery center include:<\/p>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"septoplasty\">Septoplasty \u00a0<\/h3>\n\n\n<p>These procedures reshape, reduce or reposition portions of the septum\u2019s bone or cartilage to open up the nasal passageway and improve drainage and breathing.<\/p>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"turbinate-surgery\">Turbinate Surgery\u00a0<\/h3>\n\n\n<p>This procedure reduces airway obstruction and difficulties breathing caused by enlarged or swollen turbinates, which are long ridges on the inside wall of your nose that clean and humidify air as it passes through.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;There are multiple types of turbinate surgery. Most are geared toward reducing the size of the turbinate to improve air flow. The most commonly performed turbinate surgeries are turbinate reduction and turbinate outfracture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Turbinate Reduction:<\/strong> In this procedure an instrument is used to penetrate the lining of the turbinate to remove some of the underlying soft tissue and bone. This decreases the size of the turbinate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Turbinate Outfracture:<\/strong> This surgery pushes the turbinate bone further to the side, so that air has more space to flow through the nose.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Many problems that occur in the nose are just temporary and are easily treated with medication.
